Baseball Recap: Hancock County Comes Up Short

Hancock County extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 5-14. They came up short against the Meade County Green Waves, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Green Waves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-3 on Wednesday.

As for Meade County, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

For Meade County's part, Austyn Stansbury made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Stansbury has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Rhodes, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Jolly, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Coming up, Hancock County will head out on the road to take on Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Meade County, they will be playing at home against Elizabethtown at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
