Basketball Recap: Jake Mcwhorter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rio Vista over Mildred

After flying high against Eastland last Saturday, Rio Vista came back down to earth. The Rio Vista Eagles came up short against the Mildred Eagles on Tuesday, falling 68-43. Rio Vista's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Rio Vista's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Mcwhorter, who posted nine points and five rebounds. Those nine points gave Mcwhorter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Huey, who had two points along with six assists and four steals.

Brennan Moore was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards for Mildred. Moore is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last four games he's played. Ashton Moore was another key player, going 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points and seven assists.

Rio Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Mildred, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-3.

Rio Vista will be taking part in a tournament against Cisco at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Mildred, they will venture away from home to take on Edgewood at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
