Basketball Recap: Bendle Comes Up Short

Bendle easily dispatched Genesee last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bendle Tigers fell just short of the New Standard Academy Spartans by a score of 72-69 on Wednesday. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Bendle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Landon Mattis dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mattis a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Malis Firman, who posted 12 points and six steals.

Bendle's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for New Standard Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Bendle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Standard Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against International Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with International Academy sitting on seven straight victories and New Standard Academy on four.
