Baseball Game Preview: New London Wildcats vs. St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers

The New London Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. New London has given up an average of 11.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

New London is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of Western Reserve. The game snapped a strange streak: the last six times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Jarrett Mencl made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Keith Squire, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, St. Mary Central Catholic made sure to put some runs up on the board against Huron on Saturday. The Panthers came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

St. Mary Central Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for New London, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

New London suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to St. Mary Central Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
