Basketball Recap: Washington Piles Up the Points Against Westlake

After losing to Westlake the last time they met, Washington decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Washington Tigers claimed a resounding 69-37 victory over the Westlake Demons. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Washington's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Delaney Pierce, who posted 17 points along with 11 assists and 11 boards. Pierce is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. La Nia Moore was another key player, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 boards.

Pierce wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Washington was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Westlake lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Liana Ostrowski, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points and four blocks. Ostrowski continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Barone, who had six points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks.

Washington's victory bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Westlake, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.

Washington will head out to face off against Firestone at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. As for Westlake, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-53 defeat against Berea-Midpark on the 29th.
