Softball Recap: Berks Catholic's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

Berks Catholic won the last time they faced Brandywine Heights Area and things went their way on Monday too. The Saints put the hurt on the Bullets with a sharp 7-1 victory. Considering the Saints have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Giana Mirenda was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Bryanna Gallagher and Celeste Mirenda did most of the damage at the plate: Gallagher went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Celeste went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave Mirenda a new career-high.

Berks Catholic's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-7. As for Brandywine Heights Area, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Berks Catholic will host Kutztown at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Saints' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Brandywine Heights Area, they will face off against Oley Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
