Volleyball Recap: Mountain Crest Mustangs vs. Stansbury Stallions

After flying high against Deseret Peak on Tuesday, Mountain Crest came back down to earth. The Mustangs fell just short of the Stansbury Stallions by a score of 3-2 on Thursday.

Mountain Crest started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 13-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-10.

Despite the defeat, Mountain Crest saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brogan Ritchie had 23 digs and one assist. Those 23 digs set a new season-high mark for Ritchie. Christian Hardy also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stansbury to victory, but perhaps none more so than Solomone (Solo) Laakulu, who had 29 digs and two assists. Those 29 digs gave Laakulu a new career-high. Jaime Albarran was another key player, getting 19 digs and 12 assists.

Mountain Crest's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Stansbury, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
