Weslaco East is a perfect 10-0 against Donna since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Redskins at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Weslaco East has five straight wins, Donna has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Weslaco East's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Donna North as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jacob Ramirez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Weslaco East got a massive performance out of Eduardo Hernandez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Hernandez has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Solis, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.
Weslaco East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Donna suffered their closest loss since April 2, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Edcouch-Elsa by a score of 3-1.
Donna saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jimenez Alan, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. Ronaldo Bocanegra was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Weslaco East's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Donna, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Weslaco East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Donna struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Weslaco East's way against Donna in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Weslaco East made off with an 11-2 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redskins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
