One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. Among the action were the efforts of Dinwiddie's senior K'ymon Pope, an offensive menace who scored six total TDs.
Welcome
The power rankings welcomes a newcomer to the scene as Indian River earned the 17th spot after its strong showing last week. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Great Bridge, finishing up at 48 - 2. Indian River's margin of victory (46 points) marked the biggest win the team has had all season.
No Stoppin 'Em
The MaxPreps rankings indicated that Dinwiddie would come out the decided victor last week, and the rankings were spot on. It put the hurt on Prince George with a conclusive 69 - 26 victory. Dinwiddie had two big standouts, as senior K'ymon Pope tossed for three touchdowns and rushed for three more, while senior Tyre Dalton earned three touchdowns and 237 yards rushing the ball. The combined 95-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Northside and Lord Botetourt, 6th and 31st in the MaxPreps state rankings, respectively. Northside had just enough, edging out Lord Botetourt 27 - 24. Northside saw its record improve to 5-0 and its power rank jump 18 places as a result.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Henrico (16th in the power rankings) and Highland Springs (2nd). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. With each team boasting a good deal of offensive firepower (Highland Springs has five high-flying games in a row, Henrico three), it will be interesting to see who can run the score up higher.
