Baseball Recap: Lafayette Jefferson Comes Up Short

Lafayette Jefferson extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 11-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bronchos of the 4-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Lafayette Jefferson got a good showing from Erasmo Santiallana, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Santiallana has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lafayette Jefferson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Pechin, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Wyatt Shuman also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for North Montgomery, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

On North Montgomery's side, Aiden Ambriz-Cruz was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ambriz-Cruz has become a key player for the Chargin' Chargers: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette Jefferson will host McCutcheon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North Montgomery, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lebanon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
