Preview: Humboldt Cubs vs. Cherryvale Chargers

The Humboldt Cubs will be playing at home against the Cherryvale Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Humboldt's favor as the team sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Cherryvale has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.

A well-balanced attack led Humboldt over Neodesha in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Humboldt came out on top against Neodesha by a score of 50-40. Given Humboldt's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Neodesha is ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Humboldt's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sam Hull, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, and Colden Cook, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Hull is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Mason Sterling was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-16, which was the final score in Cherryvale's tilt against Caney Valley on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cherryvale has scored all season.

Humboldt has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. As for Cherryvale, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Humboldt against Cherryvale in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 74-36 victory. With Humboldt ahead 51-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
