Preview: Regina vs. Marian Mustangs
Regina is 1-9 against Marian since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Regina will be home for the holidays to greet the Marian Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Regina might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Gabriel Richard an easy 57-35 win. Regina has struggled against Gabriel Richard recently, as their contest on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Marian's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 70-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Marian might have lost, but man, Mckenzie Swanson was a machine: she scored 31 points along with nine rebounds. Swanson scored a full 49.2% of Marian's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenley Reid, who scored 17 points.
Even though they lost, Marian were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Regina's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Marian, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1.
Regina was able to grind out a solid win over Marian when the teams last played back in January, winning 35-22. Will Regina repeat their success, or does Marian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
