Baseball Recap: Nonnewaug Victorious

Nonnewaug won against Terryville on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Chiefs came out on top against the Lakeview . by a score of 6-2. The Chiefs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the ., too.

Tyler DiElsi tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Derek Chung, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Brayden Whipple, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Nonnewaug and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Lakeview, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Nonnewaug will take on Northwestern Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Lakeview will be paying especially close attention to the Chiefs' game: after the Chiefs face off against Gilbert, they'll take on Lakeview again at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th.
