Baseball Recap: Escalon Takes a Loss

Escalon was the 2-0 winner over Hilmar when they last played one another last Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. Escalon took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hilmar on Friday. Cougars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Yellowjackets since on Friday.

Escalon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Huebner, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another was Ryan Murphy, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Escalon's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6. As for Hilmar, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

The future could be bright for both Escalon and Hilmar: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Escalon will try to hand Ripon Christian their third-straight loss when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hilmar will look to extend Dos Palos' four-game losing streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
