Recap: Stargate School Eagles vs. The Academy Wildcats
The Stargate School Eagles were the 76-68 winner over The Academy Wildcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Stargate School fell to The Academy 64-58. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Stargate School came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while The Academy is ranked 239th).
Stargate School lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Connor Rusch, who scored 22 points. Dylan Perkins was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Trey Boychuk was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with seven steals for The Academy. That makes it four consecutive games in which Boychuk has scored at least a third of The Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Ian Lamar, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Stargate School's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for The Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stargate School's road trip will continue as they head out to face DSST: Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in DSST: Cedar's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. As for The Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Kent Denver at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kent Denver will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
