Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Takes a Loss

Roosevelt lost against Saugerties on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Roosevelt Presidents fell 62-49 to the Saugerties Sawyers. While losing is never fun, the Presidents can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while the Sawyers are ranked 117th).

Saugerties' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myles Coons led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Coons a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Parisio, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Roosevelt and nudges their season record down to 3-8. As for Saugerties, their victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will square off against Our Lady of Lourdes at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Our Lady of Lourdes' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests. As for Saugerties, they will welcome Red Hook at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Red Hook will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Saugerties surely won't give up without a fight.
