Preview: Sulphur Bluff Bears vs. De Kalb Bears
Sulphur Bluff has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the De Kalb Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. De Kalb took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Sulphur Bluff, who comes in off a win.
Sulphur Bluff has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 24 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Excel Christian Academy 66-36 at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-15.
Matthew Overly was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals. The game was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Gunn, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 21 rebounds.
Meanwhile, De Kalb lost to Elysian Fields at home by a decisive 52-38 margin on Friday. De Kalb has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sulphur Bluff's win bumped their season record to 6-3 while Excel Christian Academy's defeat dropped theirs to 1-3.
Sulphur Bluff might still be hurting after the 84-63 defeat they got from De Kalb in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Sulphur Bluff avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
