Softball Game Preview: Bath County Wildcats vs. West Jessamine Colts

The Bath County Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the West Jessamine Colts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bath County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so West Jessamine's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bath County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Boyd County just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 8-2 to the Lions.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, West Jessamine made sure to put some runs up on the board against Western Hills on Wednesday. The Colts put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 14-7 win. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Michaela Tate was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Paige Hobgood was a standout: she went 3-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Abigail Myszak was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and one run.

West Jessamine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .477. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Bath County's defeat dropped their record down to 19-7. As for West Jessamine, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 15-13 record.

Bath County couldn't quite finish off West Jessamine in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
