Football Game Preview: Berkner Rams vs. Irving Tigers

Berkner has gone a perfect 5-0 against Irving recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rams will square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m.

Berkner is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Highlands just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 24-19 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Wildcats are ranked 104th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nicko Campbell, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 83 yards on only six carries. Ty Crethers also helped out as he racked up 122 receiving yards.

Berkner didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of DaQuwan Dunn and Jaden Jones. Berkner got some further help from Ricky McBride: he forced one fumble and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Irving). They snuck past Nimitz with a 35-31 victory on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Irving's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Berkner, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.

Everything came up roses for Berkner against Irving when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 44-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
