Basketball Preview: Bayside Marlins vs. Green Run Stallions
After two games on the road, Bayside is heading back home. They will take on the Green Run Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bayside knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Stallions like a good challenge.
Bayside pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of First Colonial. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), Bayside still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jessie Ware, who scored 19 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Ware is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Micala Poe was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Green Run took a serious blow against the Cavaliers on Wednesday, falling 72-20. While losing is never fun, Green Run can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 15th).
Bayside's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for Green Run, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Bayside was taken down by the Stallions 69-36 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Bayside was down 52-12.
