Softball Game Preview: Superior Spartans vs. Menomonie Mustangs

Superior has gone a perfect 5-0 against Menomonie recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Superior is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 29-1 margin over Marshall on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won eight in a row.

Emma Lampton was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Matteline Schilling was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Halle Visger was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI.

Superior always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Menomonie made easy work of River Falls on Thursday and carried off an 11-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Superior's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Menomonie, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.

Superior skirted past Menomonie 14-13 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
