Baseball Recap: Western Boone Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Western Boone, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Western Panthers on Saturday.

Levi Stewart was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Stewart wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Beau Sawyer, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Jack Mallory also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Western Boone's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Western, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Panthers beat Western Boone by a score of 12-2 later that day.
