Baseball Preview: Harding Prep vs. Chickasha Fighting Chicks

Harding Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell just short of Wellston by a score of 5-3. That's two games in a row now that Harding Prep has lost by exactly two runs.

Elk City typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Chickasha proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Elks and snuck past 5-4. Five seems to be a good number for Chickasha as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Layton Bryan made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (he also didn't allow any walks). Bryan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive pitching appearances. Bryan was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lane Jay was excellent, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lane Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Harding Prep's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Chickasha, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-6.
