Basketball Game Preview: Pawhuska Huskies vs. Pawnee Black Bears

The Pawhuska Huskies will square off against the Pawnee Black Bears at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Pawhuska's tournament run continued when they took on Morrison on Saturday. Pawhuska took a 61-44 bruising from Morrison. The loss continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Pawhuska's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Darien West, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points, and Dax Godsey, who posted seven points and five assists. That's the most assists Godsey has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Sweeden, who put up six points.

Meanwhile, Pawnee came up short against Wesleyan Christian on Saturday, falling 59-34. The contest marked the Black Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Pawhuska's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Pawnee, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Pawhuska didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Pawnee when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 46-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pawhuska since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
