Softball Recap: Franklin Central's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Franklin Central dropped their record down to 15-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They lost 9-1 to the Zionsville Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Flashes of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Franklin Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiley Renick, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Zionsville, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-3. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Zionsville's side, Leah Helton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. Helton has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tess Bradford, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sylvia Mudis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Looking ahead, Franklin Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Brownsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Flashes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Zionsville, they will head out to take on Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Irish will roll in looking for their 23rd straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
