Baseball Recap: Greenville Tech Charter Drops Highest Score of Season Against Carolina Academy

Greenville Tech Charter had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it four. They fell just short of the Carolina Academy Trojans by a score of 22-21. On the bright side, the 21- run performance marked the Warriors' highest-scoring contest to date.

As for Carolina Academy, they moved to 4-16 with that win, which also ended their 15-game losing streak. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

For Carolina Academy's part, Jayden Barton made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Barton was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Carolina Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 2-15 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Aidan Alston and Christian Bedolla did most of the damage at the plate: Alston got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Bedolla got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Carolina Academy is 4-2 when Alston posts two or more runs, but 0-14 otherwise. Stelios Karambasis was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs.
