Football Recap: Mahomet-Seymour Takes Down Marion in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mahomet-Seymour walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 35-21 victory over the Marion Wildcats on Saturday. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 34-13 win the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2019.

Ryan Pruitt threw for 92 yards while completing 77.8% of his passes. Marco Casillas was his top target, picking up 51 receiving yards.

Marion's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Callahan Roper, who threw for 239 yards and three TDs. Sam Adkins was Roper's top target, picking up 101 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Mahomet-Seymour, bringing their record up to 7-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.6 points on average over those games. As for Marion, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-4.

As of now, neither Mahomet-Seymour nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
