Baseball Recap: Tularosa Sets Scoring Season-High Against Texico

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tularosa). They put the hurt on the Texico Wolverines with a sharp 18-8 win on Friday. Considering the Wildcats have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Danner Daugherty was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tularosa got a massive performance out of Hunter Sewell, who went 3-for-6 with six RBI, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave Sewell a new career-high. Samuel Kusmak was another key player, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Tularosa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Tularosa is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Texico, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Coming up, Tularosa will head out on the road to challenge New Mexico Military Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Colts will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Texico, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-9 victory against Jal on the 26th.
