Football Recap: Chiles Takes Down Homestead in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Chiles rose to the challenge on Thursday. They walked away with an 18-7 win over the Homestead Broncos. The victory was familiar territory for the Timberwolves, who have now won six contests in a row.

Chiles found their leader in freshman Kendall Sadberry, who rushed for 60 yards and one TD, and also threw for 109 yards and one touchdown. Sadberry didn't just play on offense: she also made three total tackles and defended one pass.

Chiles didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Francesca Fernandes and Lainey Crisafulli. Fernandes is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as she's now defended at least one in each of the last four games she's played. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Homestead lost, don't look at Caitylyn Gibson. Despite the final result, she picked up 134 receiving yards and one score.

Chiles pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.4 points on average over those games. As for Homestead, the loss snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 16-5 record.

Chiles didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 26-2 defeat against Seminole Ridge on the 10th. Homestead does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
