Carthage moved to 11-0 in state championship games under head coach Scott Surratt, putting
West Orange-Stark (Orange) away early en route to a 49-21 victory Friday in the Texas Conference 4A Division 2 title contest.

K.J. Edwards broke free for an 87-yard touchdown run on his first touch of the game to set the tone at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. He finished day with 153 yards on the ground and two scores, surpassing 2,000 yards for the season. In addition to his 86-yard scoring run in last year's title game, he now has two of the top five longest TD runs in 4A championship game history.
Edwards ran for 1,057 yards and 15 touchdowns in six postseason contests.

Aledo with 12 has won more state titles than Carthage's 11. All of those have come under head coach Scott Surratt, who now has more championships than any other coach in state history and more rings than playoff losses (8) while leading the Bulldogs.
Carthage (16-0) scored three touchdowns in the final four minutes of the first half. Edwards added an 11-yard score at the 3:57 mark of the second quarter and the coach's son,
Jett Surratt, had TD tosses of 77 yards to
Junior Henderson and 13 yards to
Bryston Price to give the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead.
Playing with a cast from a broken right hand,
Tylin Williams blocked a West Orange-Stark punt at the 35-yard line and recovered the ball inside the Mustangs’ 10 for a scoop-and-score TD to open the third quarter.

Surratt, who completed 20 of 28 passes for 232 yards and three TDs on the day, completed a 1-yard scoring pass to Colorado commit

Christian Monreal connected on all seven of his extra point tries, bringing his season total to 101 successful tries in 102 attempts.
The Bulldogs have won 31 consecutive games dating back to last year.
