Softball Game Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Dwight Trojans

The Lexington Minutemen will head out to challenge the Dwight Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Lexington nor Sacred Heart-Griffin made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Minutemen took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cyclones.

Meanwhile, Dwight didn't have quite enough to beat Herscher on Friday and fell 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost six in a row.

Madi Ely spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dori Wilson and Mckenna Woodcock did some serious damage despite the final result: Wilson went 4-for-5 with one double, while Woodcock went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run. Sarah Parker was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.

Dwight's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Lexington, their loss dropped their record down to 12-14.

Lexington came out on top in a nail-biter against Dwight when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Minutemen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
