Baseball Game Preview: Sam Rayburn Rebels vs. Ector Eagles

The Sam Rayburn Rebels will venture away from home to face off against the Ector Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sam Rayburn will be strutting in after a win while Ector will be coming in after a loss.

Sam Rayburn barely beat Savoy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rebels put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rebels considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Reed Amlin looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Clay Caldwell was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamison Dorris, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Sam Rayburn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .783. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Ector's offense. They came up short against Tom Bean on Monday, falling 16-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Tomcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Sam Rayburn's record now sits at 12-6-1. As for Ector, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Sam Rayburn took their win against Ector in their previous matchup back in May of 2015 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
