Baseball Game Preview: Mumford Mustangs vs. Cass Tech Technicians

Mumford is 1-9 against Cass Tech since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mustangs will host the Technicians at 4:30 p.m. Mumford has given up an average of 13.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mumford is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 18-0 to Cass Tech.

For Cass Tech's part, Emmet Mitchell II made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Mitchell II a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Cass Tech got a massive performance out of DeVaughn Madison, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That RBI was Madison's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kyle Terry, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.

Cass Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Cass Tech and bumps their season record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Mumford, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
