Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clarke County). They never let the Chickasaw Chieftains get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday. The Bulldogs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 11, 2024.
Jayla Horn made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Horn was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Clarke County got a massive performance out of Asharai Pugh, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Pugh also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Kenlya Waters was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Clarke County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clarke County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Chickasaw, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4-1 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clarke County will challenge Jackson at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for the Bulldogs: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Aggies have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
