Baseball Recap: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cohoes

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). They blew past the Cohoes Tigers 11-3 on Wednesday. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 7-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mason McDonald made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Igoe, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-14 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Sunkes, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15. As for Cohoes, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake will host Saratoga Springs at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Streaks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cohoes, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lansingburgh at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
