Basketball Recap: Wawasee Skates Past Bethany Christian with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Wawasee's strategy against Bethany Christian on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Wawasee Warriors blew the Bethany Christian Bruins out of the water with a 57-21 final score. That 36 point margin sets a new team best for the Warriors this season.

Wawasee had a senior duo take command as Mackenzie Hackleman went 9 for 18 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven steals and six boards and Olivia Horn posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for Horn. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Wilkinson, who had four points and five steals.

Bethany Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Karlee Crume, who posted 11 points and five rebounds, and Kendra Kern, who put up a point.

Wawasee pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.5 points per game. As for Bethany Christian, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wawasee will venture away from home to take on Warsaw at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Warsaw's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Bethany Christian and Lakeland Christian Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
