Volleyball Recap: Rio Americano Takes a Loss

Rio Americano extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 13-17 in the process. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Christian Brothers Falcons. While the Raiders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcons 25-17 in the first set.

Sean Sullivan paced Rio Americano's offense, picking up 17 kills. Sullivan got some help from Adam Wixom and his 21 assists. Sullivan also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Harper Gardner, racking up two apiece.

As for Christian Brothers, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victory was nothing new for Christian Brothers as they're now sitting on four straight.

Christian Brothers found their leader in sophomore Jacoby Rugnao, who had ten digs and two aces. Rugnao has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times he's played.

Rio Americano didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against El Camino on the 24th. As for Christian Brothers, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Rio Linda on the 30th.
