Basketball Recap: Savannah Christian Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Savannah Christian had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against The Habersham School Patriots by a score of 59-49 on Friday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Landon Essenburg, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Essenburg has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Shippy, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Habersham School has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.

Savannah Christian and The Habersham School will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Raiders see the court they'll take on Hardeeville at 6:30 p.m. on December 2. As for The Habersham School, their break will end when they face Islands at 6:00 p.m. on December 2.
