Baseball Recap: Southampton Comes Up Short

Southampton lost against Bayport-Blue Point back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Mariners lost 14-3 to the Phantoms. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jackson Romanow put in work no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Romanow wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Costa-Helmsteadt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Southampton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Bayport-Blue Point, their victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-0.

While Southampton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
