Softball Game Preview: Nandua Warriors vs. Chincoteague Ponies

The Nandua Warriors will face off against the Chincoteague Ponies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Nandua's offense. They came up short against Arcadia on Thursday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chincoteague). They were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over Northampton on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Ponies in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won eight in a row.

Caitlyn McPherson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Chincoteague got a massive performance out of Carmela Rosanova, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave Rosanova a new career-high. Meredith Wright was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Chincoteague always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Nandua dropped their record down to 5-10 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Chincoteague, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
