Basketball Recap: Lakewood Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Lakewood saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took down the Braden River Pirates 65-50. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Pirates are ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Braden River's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anquan Polynice, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 16 points. Lawaiian Long was another key player, going 6 for 15 on his way to 13 points.

Lakewood's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Braden River, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Lakewood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 37-30 defeat against Gainesville on the 4th. Braden River has also already played their next game, a 76-54 loss against Southeast on the 7th.
