Softball Recap: Moore Haven Wins Going Away Against Gateway

Moore Haven never got on the board in their matchup last Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Gateway on Thursday. They blew past the Eagles 18-2. The result was nothing new for the Terriers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brooklyn Sergent was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Moore Haven let Charisma Micco and Lydia Lee run wild. Micco went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Lee scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Lee a new career-high in RBI (three). Khloe Desroche was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Moore Haven was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .762. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Moore Haven's record now sits at 10-5. As for Gateway, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9.

Looking ahead, Moore Haven will take on Glades Day at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gateway has already played their next contest (against Cape Coral), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
