Southport took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Decatur Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hawks 14-12. The Cardinals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Natalie Vaeth, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Lindsey Vaught was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
