Recap: McDowell Titans vs. North Buncombe Black Hawks
In what's become a running theme this season, the McDowell Titans gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 86-64 margin over North Buncombe. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while North Buncombe is ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDowell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Olivo, who scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Olivo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Parkins, who scored 23 points.
North Buncombe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trent Clark, who scored 21 points along with six steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Clark posted two or more blocks. Cole Edmonds was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists and two steals.
McDowell pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points per game. As for North Buncombe, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.
Coincidentally, McDowell and North Buncombe will both be playing Enka the next time they take the court. McDowell will head out to face Enka at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while North Buncombe will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
