Baseball Recap: Booneville Takes a Loss

If Booneville was riding high fresh off their 15-1 takedown of Calhoun City last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Booneville Blue Devils fell just short of the McNairy Central Bobcats by a score of 7-6 on Thursday. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Clark Janzen and Porter Tapp did some serious damage despite the final result: Janzen scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Tapp scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Jack Sandlin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Booneville has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.8 hits in those games compared to only 4.67 in the others. The victory made it two in a row for McNairy Central and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Booneville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-5 win against Jackson Christian on the 10th. As for McNairy Central, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-4 victory against Lausanne Collegiate on the 10th.
