Softball Recap: Westview Comes Up Short

Westview had lost five straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-11 to make it six. They came up short against the Sunset Apollos, falling 14-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Sunset, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-7. Considering they have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Sunset's part, Sydney Arnold spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Arnold has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sunset got a massive performance out of Penn Whitefield, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Whitefield a new career-high. Claire Townsend was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westview will host Southridge at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sunset, they will be playing at home against Beaverton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.61 runs per game on average), something the Apollos will no doubt try to take advantage of.
