Wheeler had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-11 to make it four. They fell just short of the Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles by a score of 13-12. The Bearcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Fighting Eagles earlier this season, when they won 7-6.
Nick Micciche was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Micciche, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As for Lake Station Edison, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 8, 2024.
On Lake Station Edison's side, Joaquin Hernandez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. Hernandez has become a key player for Lake Station Edison: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Aiden Rowan and Gael Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Rowan went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Gutierrez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Lake Station Edison is undefeated when Gutierrez posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Jordan Hastings was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler will take on Morgan Township at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cherokees have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Lake Station Edison, they will square off against East Chicago Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
