Baseball Recap: Baker County Wins Going Away Against Hilliard

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clay, Baker County was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Hilliard Red Flashes 11-1. The match marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Blane Chauncey looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Baker County is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hank Dyal, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. He also brought in three RBI, marking his first of the season. Wesley Crockett was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Baker County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hilliard only posted a batting average of .143.

The win got Baker County back to even at 3-3. As for Hilliard, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Baker County and Hilliard's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Baker County and Tift County (who has only given up 3.57 runs per game) will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Hilliard will square off against Fernandina Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, a team that's only allowed 3.4 runs per game.
