Football Preview: Chesnee Eagles vs. R-S Central Hilltoppers

The Chesnee Eagles will head out to challenge the R-S Central Hilltoppers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Chesnee was able to grind out a solid victory over Walhalla, taking the game 25-13.

Meanwhile, R-S Central's match on Friday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. They claimed a resounding 52-20 win over Wilkes Central on the road. The Hilltoppers pushed the score to 39-13 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had little chance of recovering from.

Elmer Littlejohn was a one-man wrecking crew for R-S Central as he rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 154 yards and a touchdown on only 12 passes. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards. Karlen Mcentyre was another key player, gaining 115 total yards and two touchdowns.

R-S Central wouldn't let Wilkes Central keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. R-S Central can thank Connor Henson and Makell Jennings for forcing both of them. Jennings also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making seven total tackles.

Chesnee's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for R-S Central, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.

Everything came up roses for Chesnee against R-S Central in their previous meeting back in September of 2023 as the team secured a 41-13 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chesnee since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
