The Algonac Muskrats are taking a road trip to take on the Howell Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Algonac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Algonac came out on top against Almont on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Muskrats put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 13-3 win.
Morgan Reams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Autumn Dueweke was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Murray, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Algonac hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Howell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Franklin, falling 9-3.
Kate Anderson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits.
On the hitting side, Howell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Overton, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Algonac is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Howell, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Algonac hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Howell struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
